Hi, I’m Jillian. Welcome to my little corner of the internet - a space dedicated to celebrating the movies, tv, theatre, books, music, and small wonders that make up my days…or, in other words, the art in my life!

Subscribe now to get full access to *the art in my life* newsletter and website, and never miss an update.

Why subscribe?

On surprise occasion (at least until I land on the posting schedule that works best for me), you’ll receive a curated list of my favorite finds, a mix of creative works - sometimes connected by a theme, sometimes not - with a few quick thoughts accompanying each, plus a shot or two of my own photography. For me, it’s like a virtual gratitude journal. But I hope you’ll think of it as a treasure trove of recommendations sent straight to you, waiting in your email to be explored and enjoyed. Maybe it will even lead you to discover a new favorite or two of your own.

Longer posts (“deep dives”) and possibly some extra audio, too, will pop up as inspiration moves. (I also hope to personally record a read-aloud voiceover for every post.)

When you subscribe, you won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter plus all bonus content will go directly to your inbox.

*If you don’t receive a Welcome email upon subscribing, check your Spam or Junk folder and mark this address as ‘not spam.’*

Some notes to help you get to know me and the kinds of treasures awaiting you in *the art in my life*:

• I had a blog called The Classic Film Connection on WordPress, but I’ve migrated to Substack as a form of protest against the unsightly ads that invaded my site. It’s also a sort of fresh start - a chance to expand my scope to gushing about other eras and art forms I appreciate just as much.

• That being said, I still have a particular fondness for unique gems in danger of going unnoticed or becoming lost to the sands of time. The rarer, the better!

• I like to get personal and go deep. And in this spirit of total openness, it’s important for me to let you know my faith is an integral part of who I am that influences every aspect of my life - including how I view art - to the extent it would be dishonest of me to ignore it here. But any faith-related insights will be mentioned only with the intent of being fully myself and in the hope of encouraging (and respecting) such freedom in every individual who visits here.

• I’m an INFP 9w1 who’s reasonably obsessed with personality psychology - particularly in terms of analyzing fictional characters - so expect some of that to sneak in now and again as well. (Those codes are my Myers-Briggs and Enneagram types, by the way.) I don’t glorify these systems beyond what they are - unscientific and completely subjective - but I do consider anything that helps me understand and appreciate myself and others to be of special value that’s worth exploration.

If this sparks your interest, then…

Let’s connect!

My goal is not only to brighten your day by sending positive thoughts and quality recommendations your way, but to create an interactive community - a place where everyone feels welcome and inspired as we share the magic of the art in our lives together. Subscribe now to be part of it. All that’s missing is you!
